The Mellenger team works at the office, together, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and at home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These days are subject to change pending the needs of the business.
Mellenger will provide laptops and other equipment as required; you only have to ask. Computers and other equipment provided to employees are owned by Mellenger Interactive and must be returned upon an employee’s departure.
Macs and PCs can be returned with the contents wiped. On the Mac you can do this easily now.
Bad ergonomics can murder your back, shoulders, neck and eyes. If you work on a laptop, use an external monitor or laptop stand (with an external keyboard and mouse) so you can look straight ahead instead of down at the screen. Your eye line should be level with the address bar on your web browser.
Use an adjustable office chair so that you can be at the right height and support your lumbar region. Your elbows should naturally fall flush with your table/desk height. Fit the backrest curvature of your chair to the small of the lower back and put your feet on some books or a stool so that your thighs are parallel to the floor.
Reduce eye strain with the 20/20/20 rule. For every 20 minutes spent looking at a computer screen, you should spend 20 seconds looking at something else 20 feet away. As tempting as it is, the couch is not an optimal place to work. It may be comfortable, but having your legs or full body in a vertical position can lead to muscle numbness.
It’s easy to snack throughout the day instead of taking a traditional lunch break. Making a meal and staying hydrated gives you the opportunity to stand up, walk around, and let your eyes have a rest from the computer screen. Try to get in as many steps as possible, even if you're at home.
If you need an office chair, monitor, or something else to improve your home office setup, just ask.
Mellenger Interactive employees receive extended health benefits through a Health Trust called Flexsave by Hub Financial. The health benefits start after your probationary period and are prorated for the year with no rollover.
A Health Trust gives you a pool of money (typically $1200/year) that can be used for a wide variety of healthcare expenses. The advantage of a trust vs a typical healthcare plan is that it's a non-taxable benefit to you as an employee, and no insurance fees come off your paycheck each month.
To log in to the benefits portal, visit www.flexsavebenefits.com with your user and password. with questions, email flexsave@hubfinancial.com.
We support you taking courses or participating in workshops to enhance your skills. If you want to take a course or workshop, email Andrew at least two weeks in advance with an overview of the course/workshop for review. Include the name, dates/times, cost and how it will enhance your skill set.
It's possible that grants may be available for courses and training. Please contact Andrew if you are interested and we can look into what's out there.
